I’m not sure why I created “Reflections.” Maybe it was the Life magazines that my father collected when I was a child during World War II. Maybe it was my oldest sister’s boyfriend who came home from the Pacific with black-and-white photographs of Japanese soldiers’ heads in a stack. Maybe it was the hours that I spent reading newspapers and magazines while watching the world through television. Maybe it was the year that I lived in Germany, visiting Nuremberg and Dachau, or the day I got too close to the Berlin Wall and found myself in the sight lines of a machine gun.
